We are always looking for volunteers to help us to help others. Interested in our volunteer opportunities. There are many opportunities with various time commitments, so we will be able to find the perfect fit for you.
Mission Impact Team Leadership
Breakthrough Ministries, Inc. puts the safety of our residents, employees and volunteers first. In an effort to provide a safe environment, we require everyone who gets involved with Breakthrough Ministries, Inc. as an employee or volunteer to complete an application. With the application the applicant must submit and agree to an investigation of your background. This online application (coming soon) will take about 10 minutes to complete. Generally, you are eligible to volunteer immediately upon completion of the application unless the volunteer activity involves working with minors. In that case, the required investigation will be completed within 5 business days and you will be contacted by a Breakthrough Ministries, Inc. representative and provided a volunteer card.
Breakthrough Volunteer Guidelines
Treat all residents with dignity and respect keeping in mind that residents are in various stages of recovery and transistion. In order to protect volunteers and residents, it is imperative that all residents are treated in accordance with Breakthrough program rules.Do not give special favors or anything valued over $10.00 to residents. Do not accept anything of value from residents without the approval of Breakthrough. Do not lend to or borrow money from a resident, purchase personal items from a student, or sell merchandise or personal services to a resident.
Treat all residents fairly and objectively. No favoritism or preferential treatment is permitted. You will find that there may be some residents to whom you are more naturally drawn to in interaction and conversation, which is true in almost any group of people. Please be sensitive to issues of favoritism and strive to treat everyone equally. Please maintain a polite and courteous attitude during the performance of your duties at all times.
Volunteers will, unless designated by Breakthrough, be asked to interact only with residents of the same sex. Volunteers are asked to refrain from contact beyond casual passing conversation with residents of the opposite sex.
Volunteers must abide by program rules and support the program at all times. Residents concerns about the program must be brought to the attention of the program staff. At no time should a volunteer side with disgruntled residents against program staff or program policies.
All personal information at Breakthrough is confidential and stays within Breakthrough. Volunteers may not discuss with anyone information about residents in the program, including acknowledging whether or not someone is a student here.
Do not dispense any medication to residents under any circumstances.
If a volunteer has permission to take a resident off Breakthrough property, the resident must be kept under the volunteer’s supervision at ALL times, and returned to Breakthrough w/in the time frame indicated by the resident’s pass.
If there is any questionable behavior by the resident while with the volunteer, the volunteer must contact a staff member ASAP. Questionable behavior would be doing something contrary to Breakthrough policies, or the resident asking the volunteer to violate Breakthrough policies on their
behalf.
